From the Johnson Coliseum on the campus of Sam Houston State University.
Friday, October 25, 2024
Promoter: Bruce Prichard
Broadcast Announce Team: Jack Buck & Pat McAfee
Backstage Interviewer: Kayla Braxton
Ring Announcer: Marc Lowrance
Marc Lowrance is in the ring welcoming the television audience to Lone Star Live on YouTube TV! He introduces the head of WCCW, promoter Bruce Prichard.
Prichard comes out, thanks everyone in attendance, and gives an impassioned speech of restoring Texas wrestling its rightful place in the wrestling landscape, saying the business was always better when the biggest stars had roots in the Lone Star State.
To that end, he is proud to bring us the main event for tonight, an Elimination Match between four of the very best wrestlers in the business - The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes, Ricky The Dragon Steamboat, Latino Heat Eddie Guerrero, & Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig - with the winner being crowned the Texas Heavyweight Champion.
Bruce mentions there will be more big announcements later in the night, but he’s ready to start the action. Before he can leave the ring, "Sexy Boy" blasts across the sound system, and The Heart Break Kid Shawn Michaels struts and dances his way to the ring. He shakes Prichard’s hand, then takes the microphone.
HBK knows all too well what it takes to be the The Headliner, The Show Stopper, The Main Event, night in and night out. And even ol’ Brother Love knows, there’s only one man with the pedigree to get the job done! So HBK is going to make this easy on Bruce and tells him to just name him the NEW! World Class Heavyweight Champion.
Bruce nods along to all of Shawn’s talking points, and says that Shawn would indeed make a great champion, but he isn’t ready to just hand out any titles, they’ll have to be earned inside the ring!
The crowd pops, Shawn whispers in Bruce’s ear. and the men exchange sideways glances at one another. Marc Lowrance begins the introductions for the first match as Prichard and Michaels leave the ring together, seemingly deep in conversation.
Limitless Keith Lee vs Buddy Murphy
Lee’s uncanny athleticism matches that of his opponent early on, giving the crown an energetic start to t o the match. Murphy connects with a knee strike for the first near fall. A running Murphy clothesline sends both men tumbling to the outside. Murphy goes for a dive from the ring apron, but Lee catches him and powerslams him to the concrete floor.
Lee rolls his man in, and takes over, grounding Buddy and neutralizing his speed advantage. Lee delivers a massive Spinebuster, then finishes things off with the Big Bang Catastrophe.
Your Winner [6:32] Limitless Keith Lee!
Pat is wowing along with the replays, and Jack steadfast states that Keith Lee is a force to be reckoned with.
Kayla Braxton is backstage with Curt Hennig. Curt tells us that Rap is Still Crap, and so are all three of his opponents. As a full-blooded West Texas Redneck, he is the Perfect man to take home that Texas Title.
Pat and Jack extol the virtues of the men in our next match, noting that Houston Heat have taken Trick under their wing, while Barry and FTR have the technical know-how to pick a man apart.
FTR & Barry Windham vs. Houston Heat & Trick Williams
Trick’s energy give his side the early advantage. He hits a twisting neck breaker on Barry for an early two count. FTR slow things down and end up working Booker over for an extended face-in-peril sequence. Stevie Ray gets the hot tag and cleans house, but after some trimming issues with Trick & Booker, Stevie turns around into a Shatter Machine. Dax gets the cover and the win
Your Winners [9:49] FTR & Barry Windham!
Kayla is backstage again, this time with Latino Heat. Eddie compliments how nice Kayla is looking tonight, and that he could use a fine Mamacita like her to dance with later tonight after he Lies, Cheats, and Steals his way to the Texas Title!
Eddie walks off screen and Bruce Prichard takes his place standing with Kayla. He will address the World Class Heavyweight Title situation another time, but he does have a big opportunity to announce. At the next WCCW show, Black Friday, November 29th in Waco, we will see the Dirty Dozen Battle Royal. Thirteen Men will enter the ring, looking to take home a $50,000 Prize. Kayla thinks that is an amazing opportunity, and Bruce cuts her off. The money is only half the story. The winner will earn a Universal Championship Match on New Year's Eve in San Antonio.
Back to ringside, Pat and Jack put over the current UWA Champion, Ravishing Rick Rude, but add with all the great wrestling stars across the Universal Wrestling Association, There's no telling who will be the reigning champion come New Year's Eve.
Jack recaps the technical mastery we witnessed in the previous match, and Pat chimes in that he would guess that there will be little of that in our next matchup.
John Bradshaw Layfield vs. The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns
Lots of pushing and shoving as the two powerhouses dig in for position, Roman unleashes a flurry of kicks and forearm shots, but the tough Texas absorbs them all and slams Reigns to the mat and drops a knee on his face. Roman kicks out at two, and JBL suplexes him back to the mat. Roman kicks out again.
JBL pulls him to his feet, then hits the ropes for the Clothesline From Hell, that Roman promptly ducks, hits the opposite rope and SPEARS JBL out of him boots. Bradshaw isn’t done yet, and pulls himself to his feet, but the Tribal Chief is waiting. One Superman Punch & another Spear finish off the Wrestling God.
Your Winner [4:14] The Tribal Chief Roman Reigns
Reigns stands triumphant in the ring and Kayla Braxton steps in the ring, mic in hand. She congratulates Roman, who stops her and takes the mic. Roman states that mistakes have been made. Bruce Prichard brought in the Head of the Table so that everyone in WCCW can eat. Then, he wastes the opportunity and puts him in the middle of the show against some over-blown has-been?
Roman acknowledges that Bruce might be new to this, so he will graciously give him a chance to redeem himself – by Acknowledging that the Tribal Chief should be the World Class Heavyweight Champion. The microphone gets dropped and Roman saunters his way to the back.
Pat thinks Prichard has a problem on his hands. Jack reminds the fans that Roman isn’t the first person to stake a claim to the top title in the promotion. Pat can’t wait to see what happens next.
Gentleman Chris Adams vs Crush
Jack points out that the two combatants are not actually related, and Pat thinks they should both retire and start a law firm – Adams & Adams, Attorneys at Law. Jack doubts that will happen.
Inside the ring, Crush has been tossing Chris around non-stop, only his Judo training has kept the Gentleman from being a squash victim. Crush hurls Chris into the turnbuckles and charges in, but no one is home! The big man staggers out and eats a SUPERKICK! Chris covers and scores the 1…2…3!
Your Winner [6:22] Gentleman Chris Adams!
Jack calls that the upset of the night so far. Pat wonders if the former Crush took his opponent too lightly. Jack says you won’t be able to do that and get away with it here in WCCW.
Kayla is in the back with Cody Rhodes. The American Nightmare says while he never lived in Texas, He is the Son of a Son of a Plumber from Austin, Texas baby, and that mantra will be with him in that ring tonight as he captures the Texas Title!
Back to the ring, and Jack tells us that Brian Adams has been stomping around ringside, tossing chairs and anything else that wasn't nailed down, apparently still very angry at the referee’s count and decision. He has threatened everyone in sight, announcers, event staff, and fans alike.
Lowrance is introducing the next match, but Crush is still hanging around.
Demolition vs. Kevin & Kerry Von Erich
Ax & Smash are out first. As they hit ringside, we get an extended stare-down between Ax, Smash & Crush, Jack notes there is definite history between these three men, and Pat wonders if Texas is big enough to contain the fight should it break out here in Huntsville. Finally, Crush relents as The Von Erich boys come bounding to the ring.
In the ring, we get a classic tag team affair, heels working the baby face over in the corner, hot tags from both brothers, as well as great chemistry from the heels. After 12 minutes of back-and-forth wrestling, Kerry clamps the Iron Claw on Smash. Kevin tries to cut Ax off with a dropkick, and is admonished by the referee. Classic double team spot here from Demolition, but the crowd starts to buzz.
A man in a Demolition Mask and black singlet has charged to ringside and BLASTS Smash in the back of the head with a chain! Pat is beside himself on commentary. Jack implores the referee to turn around, but he doesn’t.
Kerry is befuddled, leaning over the ropes yelling at the assailant. Smash is being beaten pretty basly at this point, and is bleeding from the top of his head. Ax breaks free from Kevin, drops down to the floor, and starts to go after the mystery man, who pulls the mask off and reveals his face.
Jack exclaims “That is Moondog Rex! That's Randy Colley!
Rex clobbers the stunned Ax with the same chain. The referee is looking around confused. Kerry & Kevin are standing there, arguing their side of the story. Finally, the official shrugs and calls for the bell
Official Decision [13:55] No Contest.
Smash joins his partner in attacking Rex, who swings the chain around defensively, then takes off up the ramp yelling back at Demolition that they have not seen the last of him.
Pat & Jack try to catch their breath as they watch security restore order. They recap what was a very good match up to that point. Kayla is in the ring as Ricky Steamboat heads down to the ring for the main event. She talks to him about his opportunity tonight, and he assures the fans he will overcome the odds and be a champion they can be proud of.
Texas Heavyweight Title Four-Way Elimination Match
Ricky The Dragon Steamboat vs. Perfect Curt Hennig vs. Latino Heat Eddie Guerrero vs. The American Nightmare Cody Rhodes
Jack summarizes the rules. This is an elimination match and not one fall to a finish, so we could see disqualifications and count outs. Pat wonders if the title could be decided on a disqualification, and Jack affirms it, due to the special circumstances of this kind of match.
The bell rings, and the four men pair off, Rhodes and Guerrero to start leaving Steamboat and Hennig as temporary dance partners. The first big reaction comes when Cody hits a cutter on Eddie, and then after a Steamboat chop, Cody puts Curt in position for the Cross Rhodes. Curt slips out and takes a powder ringside, only to eat a dive from Eddie.
Steamboat and Rhodes give us a few minutes of chain wrestling: wristlocks and reversals, toeholds and arm drags. Steamboat gets the better of the arm drag exchanges, and Cody rolls to the floor. Ricky looks down at Cody, then gets rolled up from behind by Curt for a two count!
That seemingly breaks the seal, and we get a flurry of two counts. Cody with a Cross Rhodes on Curt. Eddie Frog Splashes Steamboat. Hennig Perfect-plexes Eddie. Steamboat with a gorgeous cross body that had Pat jumping around the announce table in excitement. Hennig and Steamboat trade punches, and Eddie manages to crawl behind Cody, and, he rolls Cody up. As the referee starts to count, Eddie puts his feet on the middle rope for leverage and gets the three count!
Cody Rhodes [11:24] has been Eliminated!
Eddie tries to do the same thing to Ricky, but he sees it coming and chops him to the mat. Eddie rolls to the apron as Curt tries to hook Steamboat for the Perfect-plex. Curt hits the move, but as the referee counts, Eddie comes in from above and Frog Splashes both men! The mangled pile of limbs ends up with Eddie’s back laying on Steamboat’s chest and somehow, that ends up with a 1…2…3!
Ricky Steamboat [17:22] Has been Eliminated!
Hennig and Guerrero roll to opposite corners and slowly come to their feet. The crowd noise gets more intense with each move now, with the title being withing each man’s grasp.
We get a flurry of action, dropkicks, clotheslines, forearm shots, anything they can come up with to take the opponent down. Eddie mule kicks Curt for a momentary advantage, and he capitalizes. Guerrero hooks Curt in a suplex set up.. One Amigo… Two Amigos… As Eddie tries for the third, Curt shifts his weight and grabs an inside cradle 1… 2… Handful of tights... 3!
Your Winner [30:40] and the NEW Texas Heavyweight Champion, Mr. Perfect Curt Hennig!
“Rap is Crap” fills the air and Hennig celebrates. Eddie complains to the referee and Marc about the tights, but they fall on deaf ears. Pat appreciates the irony of Eddie living by the cheat earlier, then falling to it at the end. Hennig obtains a cowboy hat from somewhere, and his sweaty, smug, smiling face under a tilted brim is the last thing we see as the show fades….
