Mid-South Wrestling Episode 2
Taped at Irish McNeel Sports for Boys Club at the Louisiana State Fairgrounds
Commentary: Jim Ross and Bill Watts
A recap of last week is shown, including the final segment. Watts has made two new matches for the Mid-South North American Title tournament with Ernie Ladd vs. Butch Reed and Junkyard Dog vs. Iceman King Parsons to take place on today’s program. The question was what Watts was going to do with inserting an extra match into the tournament. Watts says he’s just going to see how it all plays out and then figure it out when we get to the finals.
Ronnie Garvin then comes out, who has a tournament match with Matt Borne upcoming. “I’m willing to make this a little bit easier for you, Bill. Jake Roberts was out here last week talking about how everybody should be gunning for him and the Mid-South Television Title and not be so worried about this title tournament. Well, I’m pretty sure hands of stone can crush a snake any day. And, Bill, if you give me a guaranteed Mid-South Television Title shot, I’ll withdraw from the North American Title Tournament.”
Jake Roberts comes out and delivers a slow laugh and evil smile. “Ronnie Garvin, everybody says you’re tougher than nails and braver than any Roman Centurion. You’re also dumber than a sack full of rocks. Giving up your tournament shot for a guaranteed TV Title opportunity, that’s smart, I’ll grant you. But the fact that you have to face me for it. The odds aren’t just stacked against you, the chance of you winning is zero.”
Garvin retorts. “Talks is cheap and I’m willing to do my talking with these fists and in that ring.”
Watts gets between the two and says the TV title match will happen at the upcoming super show. Superdome Extravaganza 1 at the Superdome in New Orleans.

Slick cuts a promo in the ring before the next match. “Bill Watts says he has given the black man an opportunity here in Mid-South, but all he did was pit black man vs. black man again. He has isolated the black wrestlers in this tournament when the proper thing to do is to give each of these four men fighting today matches against white wrestlers. But he’s not going to do that. You can say whatever you want and hide the truth, Bill Watts, but I know what’s real.”

North American Title Tournament
“Big Cat” Ernie Ladd vs. “Hacksaw” Butch Reed
Finish: Reed slips out of a power slam and pushes Ladd into the ropes. He tries an O’Connor Roll, but Ladd holds onto the top rope to block it. Slicks from underneath jabs Ladd in the throat with his cane, missed by the referee. Ladd turns around into a diving clothesline by Reed. He wins with a butterfly suplex.
Winner: Butch Reed by pinfall
Time: 11:43

Junkyard Dog comes out and scares off Slick and Reed from doing a beat down on Ladd. JYD then goes to commentary. “Slick, is out here talking about he knows what’s best for the black man. Where every man, no matter his color, should only be speaking for himself. I’m perfectly happy with the opportunities I’ve been given here in Mid-South. When Watts let people go if they wanted when he took over, I said ‘the Dog is staying right here.’”
Ernie Ladd then comes over, holding his throat. “Slick, you yellow bellied cretin. You preach about wanting the best for all black men. How we should all be brothers united. Then jam me in the throat with your cane and run off with your tail between your legs. Me and the Dog aren’t joining your stable because we know that the only black man you really care about is yourself.”

Mr. Wrestling II and Magnum TA are out at the commentary position. They put themselves over as the Mid-South Tag Team Champions and say how either the Fabulous Freebirds or the Midnight Express would be worthy contenders. They’re then cut off by an attack from Kevin Sullivan’s Army of Darkness. This includes Angel of Death, Maya Sing, the Purple Haze and the Missing Link. They trounce the tag champions and Sullivan laughs with sadistic glee.
“There are no other contenders but the Army of Darkness. We know the golden rule, he who has all the gold makes all the rules. At the end of the North American Title tournament, I will be the Mid-South North American Champion and by that point my Army will also hold the Mid-South Tag Team Titles. Magnum TA and Mr. Wrestling II you have only just begun to feel the darkness on your souls.”

“Ravishing” Rick Rude is out with his valet, Madusa Micelli. Madusa makes a show out of removing Rude’s robe and showing him wearing his wrestling gear with the UWA Universal Title around his waist.
“There has not only been a lot of changes here in Mid-South, but in the UWA overall. I’ve been on the shelf for too long and without a home for too long. Bill Watts took his shot at bringing the greatest wrestler in the world today here to Mid-South and he won it. But never forget, Bill, you need me a whole hell of a lot more than I need you.”
“But, I’m going to do you another favor, Bill. You’ve got a conundrum for the North American Title Tournament. Ronnie Garvin bowed out to get a Television Title shot. So, you’ve got no opponent for Matt Borne. Well, I wouldn’t mind a nice easy introduction here to Mid-South Wrestling, so why don’t we give Matt Borne a Universal Title shot at the Superdome Extravaganza.”
The crowd cheers for this and Matt Borne walks out. “The Mid-South North American Title is the richest prize here in Mid-South. But, the UWA Universal Title is the biggest belt there is in all of professional wrestling. I don’t know what game you’re playing at Rude. If you think I’ll be a pushover just so you can look good in the Superdome and get on that awesome card, you better think twice. I’ll take your offer and I’ll be the next UWA Universal Champion.”
Rude smirks and walks off with Madusa, not being impressed with Borne at all.

Winner: Junkyard Dog by pinfall
Time: 12:27
The Jive Soul Bros run out post match, but JYD hops over the guardrail and goes into the crowd to avoid them.
