Two hundred members of press, television and various media outlets filled the relatively small press conference room in Nippon Budokan, in the capital of Japan, Tokyo. As journalists and pundits all found their seats, Ryu Nakata made his way and stood in front of a long table, on a slightly elevated stage:
“Ladies and gentlemen of media, I bid you thanks for showing here on such short of a notice. Welcome, and I will soon introduce you to our spokesmen. Before we continue, please refrain from asking any questions until you have been permitted to do so. Without any further ado, please welcome our commissioners: PWF’s own Frank Goodish, and from ARC, Mr. Dory Funk.”
The commissioners sat behind the long table: both PWF and ARC Heavyweight titles were positioned in front of the men, on the table. Goodish took the mic and welcomed the press once more. Then he continued:
“I have no doubts you have enjoyed the Pacific League, lot of great matches we had. However, you all probably had a bit of a bitter taste in your mouth after that incredible last match. As you know, we have a three way draw atop of the table: Misawa, Choshu and Tenryu all finished with 18 points each.
After discussing with AJPW’s main office, we have come up with a solution: in a few days, AJPW will hold one more event under the Pacific League name, Pacific League: Terminus. On this show, we will have a three way coin toss between Misawa, Choshu and Tenryu. Now, this coin toss will determine the order in which these three men will compete. The winner of the coin toss will go to the finals, and the other two men will compete for right to challenge him. The winner at the end of the night will be announced the first ever Pacific Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Champion! Later on, we’ll hear from one of the wrestlers, the man who gave us the match of the year here in AJPW, Mitsuharu Misawa.”
Goodish thanked the press, smiled awkwardly, and gave the stick to one Dory Funk; The Funkster greeted the crowd:
“A helluva announcement from my partner here, I’m convinced we’ll get a great show there. But if I may be so rude, I believe we’ve all seen a lot from PWF these past few months, so it’s now ARC’s time to shine”, Funk laughed, “And we’ll give you a preview on Pacific League: Terminus. I’m here to announce some of the men fighting in the Atlantic Cup. First and foremost, we’ve managed to get one of the biggest names in history of professional wrestling, The King, Harley Race!”
The Funkster was interrupted with a heartfelt, spontaneous clap from the press, welcoming the living legend of Harley Race back to Japan. Funk smiled, before continuing:
“We can also confirm Samoa’s finest fighters as well, Peter Maivia, and Afa, as well as Sika, all of these gentlemen will be fighting in the Cup. Hopefully uhh…”, Funk chuckled to himself, “ the usual drama and scuffle of the great Anoa’i dynasty will avoid us here in Japan. Heh-heh.”
“And last, most certainly not the least, we will have our hands full with another legend. The Unsinkable Battleship himself, The Man, The Lariat, Stan Hansen will also be a part of the Atlantic Cup! Finally, in order to give you a taste of the upcoming Cup, on Terminus, all of these men will face off in a six man tag team match, as Maivia and the Wild Samoans face off against Race, Hansen, and another partner of theirs. Thank you very much, dear folk, and now we’ll be taking your questions, right, Frank?”
Frank nodded.
A lady in the first row raised her hand:
“Momoto here from Tokyo Daily, may I ask you about Baba-san? How is he doing, and will we be seeing him soon?”
Frank answered Baba is feeling a lot better, and is not only at home recovering, but he is also progressively taking on paperwork from home, and is expected to be at the shows soon, and if needed, even on TV.
“From Nippon TV, my name is Ken”, a short, black-haired man asked, “I was wondering if Kenta Kobashi was gonna make some sort of an appearance soon, after his retiring from the Pacific League?”
Goodish answered: “As you have pointed out, Kobashi has indeed retired from the League, and maybe even from any further competition altogether. But I have in fact contacted him, and he will be present at Terminus, and he’ll even present us with a match featuring wrestlers from his dojo. So not only we’ll be seeing him in some capacity, but we can also add that match to Terminus! Competitors will be announced later. One last question here?”
A pudgy, unshaved, middle aged man with a southern accent spoke: “Uhh, Conrad here, host of various podcasts, unaffiliated. I was wondering, Mr. Funk, if there are any other names rumored or announced for ARC? Thank yew…”
Dory retorted: “Thanks for asking, Conrad, there are a lot of workers being contacted for ARC, and not all of them are confirmed. Negotiations start and halt, you know how it is with these things. I suppose we’ll all have to wait and see”, Funk smiled to end the question segment.
The commissioners left the long table, as Ryu Nakata returned, and welcomed the main man of the last segment: Mitsuharu Misawa.
Dressed in a pitch-black suit, Misawa seemed to be at home in such a position, even though his muscles were very much protruding in the garment. It is not easy for well-built wrestlers to buy suits that were not custom made, after all. As he was answering the questions concerning his mental state ahead of Terminus, and his upcoming opponents, a scuffle was heard by the door.
Out came the two treacherous young men of Ishingun: Toshiaki Kawada and Akira Taue. They asked for a mic, but as they were not scheduled for an appearance tonight, they were not provided with one. This agitated the Treacherous Titan, Akira Taue, so he lifted Nakata over his head, and threw him over the long table. The altercation provoked Misawa’s fight response, and the two men started grabbing at each other’s throats. Security ran out to stop the fight, and as this dragged on, the real officer of PWF ran out.
Frank Goodish stepped right in and pushed Ishingun away; his brows frowned upon his entrance, his tidy pony-tail untied, with his curly, wild hair falling on his shoulders, before flying through the air. His deep, brown eyes mutated into a color of rageful, relentless red, as the bruiser’s terrifying voice boomed across the room, showing no need of a microphone:
“So The Bastard sends his lackeys, huh! No balls on the great Ishingun leader, huh!? I’ve had enough of your sort fucking up this company! You wanna fight?!? You want a real fight?! I’ll give you a fight… I’ll give you… TSURUTA!”
The young men stooped at this terrifying name flying out of the Commish’ mouth. It was thus confirmed; Kawada and Taue of Ishingun, versus the members of Baba’s Battalion: Tiger Mask, and the Ace of All Japan - Jumbo Tsuruta. With the announcement made, and the situation diffused, the AJPW roster began preparing for Pacific League: Terminus. The camera on the press conference zoomed off the stage, showing hundreds of journalists and pundits, before fading to black.
