UCW "Summer Storm" Results: 08/10/2024 from Gray's Armory in Cleveland, OH
We are welcome to the program by our commentary team of Dave Prazak and Steve Corino. We get a 3-minute video package highlighting our upcoming matches, with extended footage featuring the build up to our main event. "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman has been on fire since joining UCW, and he took that momentum with him overseas, where he spent the last month touring in Japan, participating in the Super J Cup tournament. There he crossed paths with the legendary Jushin "Thunder" Liger, who is carrying the NWA World Jr. Heavyweight championship; a belt primarily defended in Japan and Mexico, but Waltman challenged Liger to come to America, to his home turf, to defend the title. Liger agreed, and vowed to punish "Lightning Kid" tonight in Cleveland. The fans are ready for action, as our first competitors are in the ring for what is sure to be a high flying opener.
London & Kendrick vs. Youthanazia (Josh Prohibition & Matt Cross)
The hometown boys of Youthanazia had a great deal of the crowd behind them tonight, as is to be expected. London and Kendrick didn't seem to mind, but you could see some frustration growing as the match wore on and Prohibition and Cross proved to be very game competitors. The ending rally of this match saw London go up top with Prohibition in his cross hairs, only to have Cross meet him on the top. Cross and London battled on the top turnbuckle until Kendrick made his way up the front of the buckles and grabbed Cross, looking for a Superplex. Prohibition would stop Kendrick from executing the maneuver, and then battled London off the apron and to the floor. Cross would then come off the top and deliver a Sunset Flip Bomb off the buckles, flipping over with a Bridge to hold Kendrick down for the three count!
Winners: Youthanazia
The crowd go wild as Youthanazia celebrate! Kendrick and London look pretty annoyed by this, with London giving Kendrick a hard time, but Kendrick tells him to relax and hold on a minute. Brian grabs the microphone and says that was pretty good, and he's glad everybody got a feel good moment, but he says he knows that he and Paul are better than that. Kendrick challenges them to a rematch in a few weeks in Windsor, and after thinking about for a few seconds, Prohibition takes the microphone and accepts. The two teams tensely shake hands, and then we head to a pre-taped segment.
Backstage Segment: Motor City Machine Guns and Johnny Gargano
We go backstage, where we see Alex Shelley, Chris Sabin, and Johnny Gargano talking over strategy for tonight. Shelley brings up Matt Sydal and how badly the Northern Express tried to hurt him, and how he's ready to rip their heads off. Sabin says they need to stay cool, and watch their backs, because Martini is going to be around trying to screw them up. Gargano says he wants what Jay Lethal has, and Northern Express are clearly gunning for the Machine Guns, so they need to make sure that whatever happens tonight, a message is sent to these guys that the Midwest Mafia aren't to be messed with! Shelley kind of laughs at that "Midwest Mafia" line, asking if Gargano trademarked that, and we head back to the ring.
Reckless Youth vs. Sami Callihan
Reckless Youth is taking on Ohio native Callihan in one on one action tonight. Despite being from the state, the fans are firmly against Callihan and are cheering for Reckless Youth to win it. Corino is not impressed with Youth, and makes it very well known on commentary, which he has done in the past. He says Youth looks like a bum wrestling in jorts and a cheap cut off t-shirt, and says he is a disgrace to the business. Regardless, Youth puts on a nice show for the fans, using a hybrid lucha libre and mat wrestling style that keeps Callihan off kilter. Callihan is able to land some big shots in the match that threatened to take Youth out, such as his Bicycle Kick and lariat variations, but Youth manages to survive and persevere. Reckless debuts his new finisher, The Reckless Driver (Cross Leg Michinoku Driver II), to get the pinfall tonight.
Winner: Reckless Youth
After the match, Youth asks for a microphone. RY lays into Steve Corino, saying he has heard what he says about him and tells Corino to just admit to everybody what he is, and that's jealous! He says Corino is jealous of him because they came up wrestling on the same circuit, and here is Youth, still doing his thing, getting wins, moving up the card, entertaining these people. On the other hand, he says, you have Corino, who's 36, stuck on the sidelines, sour grapes, wishing he could get in the ring, but Scott D'Amore would rather he just sit at that table and run his mouth, which he isn't even good at that!
Corino has heard enough and steps up from the table, removing his headset and grabs a microphone. Corino tells Youth he is a third rate wrestler and an even lower form of human scum, and he'd better watch his mouth or he'll have to answer for it in the ring! Youth replies that if Corino wants to take off that cheap suit and put some trunks on and act like a man, he'll see him in Windsor. Corino yells that he is on and then storms off! Dave Prazak is left confused, now doing broadcast commentary on his own, apparently. Oh well, he says, and we go backstage.
Backstage Interview: "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman
Joe Dombrowski is backstage with "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman, who has a towel over his neck and looks like he has just finished up doing some pre-match training. Dombrowski welcomes Waltman back to the United States, and says he is really looking forward to the match tonight between he and Jushin "Thunder" Liger. Dombrowski asks Waltman if there is any personal hard feelings on his part towards Liger, and Waltman kind of laughs and answers. Waltman says he just doesn't understand the way they do things over in Japan, because you see, he pinned Liger's shoulders one, two, three to the mat there, and yet this clown is still pretending like he's a champion. And then the promoters didn't want to give a lowly "geijin" a title match, because they knew he'd win and they didn't want to ruin their little cash cow Liger. Well, he says Liger must have some pride and some balls, because he took the trip here and he's putting the belt up, but he's not happy about it. Oh well, Waltman says he can cry him a river. Dombrowski asks if this is about personal honor, and Waltman says damn right it's about honor. He says Liger should have handed that belt over at the end of the J Cup, but he still was walking around as a paper champion. And he doesn't like that Waltman called him out for it, and he says he's going to make him pay for his words, well Waltman tells him he can try, but it doesn't matter, because he's heading back to Japan empty handed!
We head back to the ring for the next contest.
War Machine (Hanson & Rowe) w/ Paul Ellering vs. The Rascalz (Zachary Wentz & Trey Miguel) w/ Wes Lee
The Rascalz blits the big Vikings early on with a fast paced attacked, but Hanson catches Miguel coming off the ropes and delivers a powerful slam to stop the momentum. Rowe then lifts Wentz over his head and tosses him to the outside right onto Miguel and Lee, sending all three men down on the floor! Hanson gets the fans going as Ellering laughs and instructs Hanson to crush them! Hanson then runs and leaps over the top and wipes out all three members of the Rascalz on the floor with a crazy 300 lbs. dive! Hanson and Rowe have Wentz back in the ring. They look to Ellering who has a thumbs up... and then gives the thumbs down! Thor's Hammer from War Machine, and Rowe makes the cover for the three count! War Machine roll right over The Rascalz here in Cleveland, and the fans are chanting for them with that dominant performance!
Winners: War Machine

Charlie Haas vs. Chris Hero
Chris Hero made his way out to the ring wearing ring gear sporting dark red, navy blue, gold, and black, with a logo stylized after the Cleveland Cavaliers. Hero is an Ohio native, and had these fans behind him as he looked to take down the seemingly unstoppable Charlie Haas. Haas would start off the match aggressively, which has become his trademark, but Hero proved to be difficult to keep down. Hero would manage to send Haas out of the ring with a big kick, and then showed his impressive athleticism to deliver a Flipping Suicida to the outside! Back in the ring, Haas used a gauge to the eyes to regain the advantage and then hit the Rip Cord Olympic Slam! It looked like the end for Hero, but out to the ring came Ace Steel and Colt Cabana, the Second City Saints! Both men got up on the apron, and Haas quickly went over to address them. Haas shoved Steel off the apron and took a swipe at Cabana as the referee tried to gain order. Hero managed to get back to his feet and the fans cheered him on. Steel and Cabana backed off, as did Haas, and once he turned, Hero caught him flush with a knock out Rolling Elbow! Hero hooked the leg, and did the improbable, holding Haas down for the three count!
Winner: Chris Hero
Hero left with Steel and Cabana, with the Chicago natives holding up the hands of Hero in victory. Haas looked on absolutely livid and yelled that they were going to pay for this!
Pre-Taped Segment: Jushin "Thunder" Liger
We get a segment that was pre-taped at an off site location, with Liger wearing gym attire and his signature red and white mask. Liger is holding his NWA World Jr. Heavyweight championship on his shoulder. Liger begins to speak and subtitles translate his promo at the bottom of the screen. Liger says that Sean Waltman is nothing but a punk. Liger claims that he tried to show "Lightning Kid" respect when he arrived in Japan, but that Waltman's attitude was completely repulsive. He says Waltman is arrogant, and believes he should be champion, and blames the fact that he is American on the reason why the promoters wouldn't give him a title match. Liger says that is not the case. He says they didn't want to give him a title match in Japan because it is true, he might have won, and nobody wanted to continue dealing with him! But Liger says that is an insult to him and the championship! Liger says Waltman beat him in the Super J Cup, but his lucky roll up doesn't mean he will beat him for the title in Cleveland. Liger says he wanted the match, he begged the promoters, but they wouldn't make it there, so he has come all the way here to do it! And he says he is not happy about it, either with the promoters or Waltman, and he is going to make Waltman's life hell because of it when he steps into that ring with him. Liger says Waltman will learn respect the hard way tonight, and he will return to Japan with both his title and his honor.
"All Ego" Ethan Page vs. "Speedball" Mike Bailey
These two were part of a wild four way scramble match on the last show, but their exchanges lead to this one on one confrontation tonight. Bailey started off fast, shaking up his fellow Canadian early, but Page managed to catch Bailey and drop him with a Stun Gun on the ropes to slow things down. Page began to mercilessly attack "Speedball" from there, using chokes and stomps to really try to wear down the martial artist. Bailey would avoid an oncoming Page in the corner and send him to the outside with a kick to swing the momentum, before flipping off the apron to wipe him out on the floor! The crowd was solidly behind Bailey, but Page caught him with a low blow on the outside, and then followed up by Lawn Darting him into the ring post! Back in the ring, Page would deliver a Rock Bottom and try for the pinfall, but only earned a two. "All Ego" would argue and threaten the referee before lifting up Bailey and attempting the Ego's Edge, but Bailey would reverse with a lightning fast Sunset Flip roll up, and that did it! Bailey got the three count!
Winner: "Speedball" Mike Bailey
Ethan Page is furious! Page clobbers Bailey from behind with a Northern Lariat, and then lifts him up onto his shoulders... and then TOSSES HIM OUT OF THE RING TO THE FLOOR WITH THE EGO'S EDGE! Bailey is a crumpled mess on the floor as medical staff and security hit the ring! Ethan Page looks on with a smile, as the solo Dave Prazak yells that Page is a sick individual!
In-Ring Segment: The Power Players and Jerry Lynn
Justin Credible makes his way to the ring with "The Franchise" Shane Douglas and Francine by his side. Credible gets on the microphone and yells for Jerry Lynn to come out and face the beating of his life! Shane Douglas is laughing and says he doubts Lynn can even walk after what they did to him at "Extreme Heat"!
Out to the stage came Jerry Lynn with a neck brace on. Lynn has the microphone and says he'd love to come in there and kick Credible's ass, but Adam Pearce and the doctors still haven't cleared him, thanks to what the cowards standing in the ring did to him last month. Credible tells the referee to raise his hand, because Lynn just forfeit the match! Lynn says not so fast. Lynn says he talked with Pearce, and they were able to find a suitable replacement for him in the match tonight; a man Justin Credible is very familiar with, and his best friend in the business.
Music hits, and out to the stage comes LANCE STORM wearing his black and red wrestling gear! Dave Prazak is very excited on commentary about this development, as Credible and Douglas are looking worried in the ring. Douglas begins to yell about this not being fair, and they weren't informed, and out came Adam Pearce to the stage to say the match is official and it is happening right now!
Lance Storm w/ Jerry Lynn vs. Justin Credible w/ "The Franchise" Shane Douglas & Francine
Lynn is still hanging around ringside, as is Adam Pearce, who joins the commentary team with Prazak for this contest. Prazak says he's a lot happier to have Pearce there than Corino. Credible tries to get the jump on Storm, but Storm reverses a whip and delivers a Tilt to Whirl Backbreaker to the joy of the crowd! Lynn is clapping and cheering him on, as Douglas and Francine slap the mat and yell profanities. Storm goes for a Superkick, but Credible ducks it and kicks him, grabbing him by the head and driving him to the mat with a Facebuster. Credible stays on top of the Calgary native, peppering him with hard closed fists, and then drops knees on him before attempting a cover, but only a two count. Credible continues his assault, delivering a Hot Shot to Storm under the ropes, hurting his throat. Credible then grabs Storm by the legs and slides out of the ring, pulling him towards the ring post. Lynn walks over and yells at Credible, distracting him long enough for Storm to kick him off and into the guardrail hard! Douglas has seen enough and runs over and shoves Lynn! Lynn is holding his neck, and Adam Pearce is standing up and steps away from commentary. Storm decides to even things up, and delivers a Pescado from the ring, wiping out Douglas! Credible walks over to Francine and grabs his Singapore Cain as everyone is distracted. The referee is watching as Adam Pearce helps Lynn back to the backstage area. Storm rolls back into the ring, and Credible whacks him right between the eyes with the Singapore Cain, and then tosses it back out to Francine before the ref can see what just happened! The fans are booing loudly as Credible covers Storm and gets the three count!
Winner: Justin Credible
Credible, Douglas, and Francine stand victorious in the ring, stomping Storm and then posing as the fans continue to rain down boos upon them.
Backstage Interview: The House of Truth
Joe Dombrowski is standing backstage with the House of Truth, with Truth Martini front and center as Jay Lethal, Shawn Spears, and Eric Young stand close by. Dombrowski asks why they had to go out and try to end the career of Matt Sydal at "Extreme Heat", and Martini says Sydal was nothing but collateral damage! He says Sydal needs to know his place, and it is far down the pecking order around here. Martini says he is going to be known as the manager of champions, as he already has the Heavyweight champion in his stable, and soon the Northern Express are going be wearing the tag team gold! Dombrowski asks Lethal directly how he can feel good about that win last month over Sydal. Lethal says he doesn't feel sorry for Sydal and he doesn't have to prove anything to anybody! He says the only thing that matters is the bottom line, and as long as he's champion, his bottom lines are always filled a lot of zeroes and commas, baby! And he's worked too damn hard for too damn long to let some nobody like Sydal take it from him. Lethal says he's worked harder than anybody to get to where he is, to become who he is, and that's the top of the business and the face of UCW, and he says he's invested some his good fortune into making sure it stays that way by aligning with the House of Truth. He says tonight the so-called Midwest Mafia gets disbanded permanently! Martini says the Motor City Machine Guns and Johnny Gargano are going to learn the truth tonight, that they picked the wrong battle and the wrong hill to die on... and that THEY CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!
Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) and Johnny Gargano vs. Northern Express ("Perfect" Shawn Spears & "Showtime" Eric Young) and Jay Lethal w/ Truth Martini
The Motor City Machine Guns and hometown hero Johnny Gargano had this raucous crowd behind them the whole way. This match started out pretty standard, but once the MCMGs and Gargano seemed like they were getting ahead, Martini made his presence felt on the apron and things started to get out of control. The tags pretty much went out the window, and we had a wild six-man brawl all over the ringside, as it seemed the House of Truth were looking to win this match ugly. The Machine Guns would get Lethal back into the ring alone, and the champion could be seen on his knees begging off, asking them to be reasonable. Shelley and Sabin answered with stereo Superkicks as the crowd went wild! Spears and Young hit the ring and sent Sabin out, before delivering a series of running clotheslines to Shelley in the corner. Spears would get Shelley up onto his shoulder into the Canadian Backrack, and then Young flew off and caught him with a diving neckbreaker from the second turnbuckle, a move they call The Derailer! Young went for the cover, but Gargano managed to break it up! Spears ran after Gargano, but Gargano low bridged him and sent him flying out of the ring! Sabin would catch him with a Tornado DDT on the outside! Young went after Gargano on the apron, but Gargano ducked it and caught him with a shoulder block, followed by the One Final Beat DDT! Lethal was back up, and he was in the ring with both Gargano and Shelley now alone. Lethal goes for Gargano, but Gargano ducks and takes him down into the Border City Stretch! Shelley goes to the other side and pulls his arm back, and now they have a DOUBLE BORDER CITY STRETCH ON HIM! Lethal is surely going to verbally submit, so Truth Martini slides in with the Book of Truth and begins whacking both men over the head with it! The referee calls for the bell as the fans boo!
Winners (by Disqualification): The Motor City Machine Guns & Johnny Gargano
Chris Sabin hits the ring and goes after Truth, but Martini bolts out of the ring before he can take any damage! A few of the fans try to take a swipe at the villainous manager on the outside, but he bolts up the ramp, yelling at the House of Truth to follow! Spears and Young get Lethal out of there, as the Machine Guns and Gargano stand tall in the center of the ring. Gargano gets on the buckles and pantomimes a belt around his waist, telling Lethal he wants him!
Backstage Segment: Adam Pearce, Jerry Lynn, and Lance Storm
Lynn is backstage yelling at Pearce that he wants Credible and Douglas at "Bad Blood"! Pearce says he can't sanction him in a match yet, and Lynn says to hell with it and rips the neckbrace off, his face beat red in anger! Storm tells Jerry he needs to calm down, and Jerry says he's done being calm, he's done being nice, and he yells that he is out for blood! Pearce says he understands that a man has to do what he has to do, but he has responsibilities to the company. Lynn says they need to be stopped! Storm says he wants to get his hands on Credible and give a receipt for what he did tonight. Pearce reluctantly says that at "Bad Blood" he will make the match, but it is unsanctioned. Pearce says anything that happens, he won't be held responsible for it.
NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title
Jushin "Thunder" Liger (c) vs. "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman
The main event was here, and these two started things off with a tense stare down. Waltman gives Liger a shove, and Liger slaps him across the face! These two then get into a very intense back and forth on the mat, with Liger actually pulling Waltman's hair and paint brush slapping him repeatedly. Liger steps on Waltman's throat and poses, and Prazak notes that these fans are turning on the Japanese star but he doesn't seem to care! He's trying to send a message here, and Waltman is in trouble! Liger takes Waltman to the outside and chops him against the railing, before choking him on the steel! Liger then delivers a Back Suplex on the floor!
Back in the ring, Liger sends Waltman into the buckles and delivers a Running Palm Strike, followed by a Rolling Kick, but only gets a two count. Liger sends him into the buckles again and charges in, but "Lightning Kid" bursts out with a spin kick to take him down and the fans go wild! Waltman tries for a Moonsault, but Liger gets his knees up! Liger delivers a Liger Bomb, but "Kid" kicks out at two! Liger slaps his hands and argues with the referee about the count. "Thunder" then tries for a Brainbuster, but Waltman knees out and delivers a spin kick that sends Liger into the buckles. Waltman with a crotch chop and then he runs towards Liger and leaps, but Liger dodges it and "Kid" flips over on the buckles and back down to the mat hard!
Waltman pulls himself up in the corner and Liger rushes in again and crushes him with the Shotei palm strike! Liger motions to the crowd, whirling his finger and then lifts Waltman onto the top turnbuckle in the seated position. "Thunder" is looking for a Superplex maybe, but Waltman blocks it and delivers a SUPER X-FACTOR off the top rope!
"Kid" is hurting on the mat, but he has a look of determination, shaking his fist and working the cheering crowd. Liger is laying prone and near motionless. From there, "Lightning Kid" scrambles to his feet and goes to the top... he nails the Moonsault! He hooks the leg hard! One, two, three! Waltman gets the win, and we have a new champion!
Winner, and NEW NWA World Jr. Heavyweight Champion: "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman
Waltman is exhausted, on his knees with the belt. He gets to his feet and waits for Liger to come to. Liger stumbles up and Waltman offers his hand in a sign of respect. Liger looks around for a moment, milking whether he will accept the gesture, and then accepts. We end the show on a feel good moment, as Waltman raises Liger's hand and his own holding his newly won title belt.
We are welcome to the program by our commentary team of Dave Prazak and Steve Corino.
