UCW "EXTREME HEAT '24" Results
Welcome to UCW "Extreme Heat '24" coming to you on July 12th, 2024, from the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center in Dearborn, Michigan!
Our announce of Dave Prazak and Steve Corino welcome us to the show and do a quick rundown of the major matches coming our way. We have a No DQ match scheduled between Jerry Lynn and Shane Douglas, coming after Douglas attacked Lynn with a chair at "Never Say Die" last month. "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards and Roderick Strong will be doing battle in a Tables Match, which they hope will settle their differences and establish who the better man is. We will have a six match tag team match featuring the Motor City Machine Guns and Johnny Gargano taking on Bad Influence and Petey Williams. And in the main event, Jay Lethal will defend his UCW Heavyweight Title against Matt Sydal in a Ladder Match!
• We get a brief promo before our first match in a darkened room, where Paul Ellering introduces himself as the new manager of War Machine. Ellering says he specializes in making monsters into champions. He says he is going to lead War Machine on a warpath of destruction through UCW and the UWA, and that everyone should be prepared for total devastation.
• War Machine (Hanson & Rowe) w/ Paul Ellering vs. Youthanazia (Matt Cross & Josh Prohibition)
Hanson and Rowe had their faces painted, as the former manager of the Road Warriors, Ellering, yelled out instructions for destruction from ringside. Cross and Prohibition were much smaller than their opponents, but that can be said for most men that square up against Hanson and Rowe. Cross would manage to hit a couple of dazzling high flying moves in this match, but it was pretty much a showcase for the big boys. War Machine would deliver Thor's Hammer to Josh Prohibiton and that lead to the pinfall.
Winners: War Machine
• Backstage, Jay Lethal is standing in with Joe Dombrowski with his title over his shoulder, looking confident. Dombrowski asks Lethal's opinion of Commissioner Adam Pearce making his match with Matt Sydal a ladder match, and Lethal just laughs it off. Lethal says Matt Sydal is nothing but a reckless fool without a plan. He says he beat him once, fair and square, and he says Sydal is going to regret the day he signed the contract for this match, because it might be his last! Dombrowski pushes back and says Lethal had to use the ring bell to assist in beating Sydal in their previous bout, but Lethal yells at him to shut his mouth! He says that just goes to show he's willing to do whatever it takes to win! He says if he is willing to bash his head in with a ring bell, then Sydal can only imagine what he's capable of once they give him a ladder to beat him senseless with! Lethal says he's going to enjoy beating Sydal into a pile of bloody mush in that ring to teach him the lesson of a lifetime, and everybody else had better take notice, or they'll be next!
• Charlie Haas vs. "Classic" Colt Cabana W/ Ace Steel
Charlie Haas has been an absolute force since beginning his run here in UCW, but tonight he faced literally his biggest challenge, as he takes on Colt Cabana. Cabana is quite a bit bigger and more formidable than his previous foes, and showed in this match he possesses some solid mat wrestling skills to counter Haas amateur wrestling background. Haas would use some dirty tactics to get over on Cabana; ripping at his hair, gauging his eyes, and fish hooking his mouth to really add insult to injury as Ace Steel pleaded for the referee to stop Haas. Haas would become annoyed by Steel and took a swipe at him, allowing Cabana to take the opportunity to roll him up, but Haas would kick out at nearly three! Haas was incensed by this, and went on a rampage. Haas would deliver a harsh clothesline, followed by a German Suplex, and then a T-Bone Suplex into the buckles! Haas would rip down his straps and deliver the Rip-Cord Olympic Slam! Haas goes for the cover, and would have had the three, but then transitions it into an Anaconda Vise! Haas squeezes Cabana's head and laughs, mocking the angry Ace Steel on the outside as Cabana limply taps out. Haas holds onto it for a few extra seconds before letting go, and Cabana is completely incapacitated.
Winner: Charlie Haas
Steel rushes in to check on Cabana, but Haas grabs him and tosses him from the ring! Prazak goes off on commentary about Haas unsportsmanlike behavior as the fans boo. Corino says he's making a statement, and he's definitely put everyone on notice here in UCW.
• We go backstage, where Matt Sydal is standing in with the Motor City Machine Guns and Johnny Gargano. Sydal wishes them luck tonight in their six man match, but Shelley assures him that they've taken down Bad Influence before back in Detroit, and they plan to the same, right here in Dearborn! Sabin says Petey Williams has been a friend in the past, but he's clearly lost his way and backing the wrong horses tonight. Gargano then says Sydal needs to be careful out there with Lethal, as he feels like Jay has something up his sleeve. He reeks of desperation. Sydal agrees, but says all he can really do is go out there and try to get the job done and handle things as they come. They say they'll be keeping an eye on things, as they dap and we head back to the ring.
• "Dangerous" Devon Storm vs. Sabu
This was a very fun contest. Storm and Sabu have very similar styles, and while this wasn't a No DQ match, they did get pretty liberal in going to the outside and getting some chairs involved. The referee was also pretty liberal in letting the two men fight it out. At one point Storm would make a major miscalculation on the floor, trying to run up the ring steps and splash into Sabu, only to have the Michigan native dodge and send Storm flying into the ringpost! Sabu would deliver a wild Asai Moonsault after that, sending both men over the railing and crashing into the crowd! The fans were cheering on this carnage, as both men managed to make it back into the ring. Storm would catch Sabu with knees as he later attempted a Split Legged Moonsault, and then hit the Overcast (Blockbuster) out of the corner for a two count! Storm went up top to try to finish Sabu off, but the wild man desperately leaped from the mat and into the ropes, crotching Storm on the top turnbuckle! Sabu would go up and deliver a Victory Roll off the top, holding the legs tight and getting the three count as the fans chanted for him!
Winner: Sabu
• We are backstage with "The Franchise" Shane Douglas, who is standing with Francine by his side. Douglas says Jerry Lynn signed his death warrant when he signed up for this No Disqualification match with "The Franchise"! Douglas says Lynn would have learned his lesson when he got beat down last month, but apparently he's a glutton for punishment, and "The Franchise" is feeling plenty sadistic tonight! He says he's ready to get Francine feeling all hot and bothered as she watches him violently take out Jerry Lynn once again, and prove why he is the best premier professional wrestler on planet Earth today!
•Ethan Page vs. "Speedball" Mike Bailey vs. Sonjay Dutt vs. Wes Lee
We had a wild four way here, and everybody was able to get something in to make them look good. Wes Lee would have an amazing sequence early where he was running and jumping off the ropes, and cleared out the ring with shots to each man before flying to the outside and wiping out Ethan Page. Page was clearly the most powerful man in this match, and made that known by later catching Lee on the apron and then lifting him over his head and tossing him into the crowd with a Military Press! Sonjay Dutt would wipe out all three men with a Phoenix Splash Plancha to the outside! Page would catch Mike Bailey on the top rope facing the crowd, crotching him up on the buckle. From there, Page grabbed his arms and pulled him off, looking for the Ego's Edge. "Speedball" managed to kick off the top turnbuckle as he was being pulled and used the momentum to flip and grab Page, taking him down with a spectacular DDT counter! As Bailey was getting to his feet, Wes Lee would attempt a Back Handspring Pele Kick, but Bailey would duck and catch him with a Spin Kick to his head while he was upside down in another jaw dropping moment! Bailey would then run and catch Dutt going up top with a kick, and then deliver the Flamingo Driver out of the corner! Page would try to break up the pinfall weakly, but it was too late. "Speedball" Mike Bailey gets the victory!
Winner: "Speedball" Mike Bailey
Page gets on the mic after the match and challenges Bailey next month, one on one, because he knows he's the better man and so does everybody else! Bailey gets on the mic and accepts, and says he's going to enjoy shutting Page up!
• Backstage, Eddie Edwards is wrapping his fists while seated in a steel chair. He says Roderick Strong has tried to end him many times, but couldn't get the job done. He says tonight, he's going to break Strong and it's going to feel damn good to do it.
• Jerry Lynn vs. "The Franchise" Shane Douglas w/ Francine
No Disqualification Match
Jerry Lynn came out fired up and hit Douglas with everything he had. Douglas was reeling on the outside and caught Lynn with a low mule kick, and then slammed a chair across his head. Douglas would proceed to punish Lynn with chair shots, before choking him with a television cable. Douglas would slam Lynn's head into the announce table and then take Dave Prazak's headset, yelling, "THIS IS FRANCHISE BEHAVIOR!" before taking a swig of water and spitting it in Lynn's face, laughing like a mad man as Lynn rolls on the ground, hurting badly. Prazak says that Douglas is despicable! Back in the ring, Douglas seems like he's looking for a Pittsburgh Plunge, but Lynn counters and rolls him up with a Small Package! Francine hands Douglas in a chair, but when he turns, Lynn dropkicks it into his face! Lynn is going for the Cradle Piledriver when in runs someone from the back! It's Justin Credible! CRACK! He smacks him over the head with a Singapore Cain! He whacks him a few more times, and then leaves the ring as the referee holds him back and shoves him out. Lynn stumbles up and right into a Belly to Belly Suplex from Douglas onto the steel chair, and "The Franchise" covers him. It's all over, as the fans are booing loudly.
Winner: "The Franchise" Shane Douglas
Credible would get back into the ring and put the boots to Lynn before lifting him up and drilling him onto the chair with that That's Credible (Tombstone), and Lynn was not moving after that. Prazak yells on commentary that we need medics down here, now! Corino says this show is really living up to it's name, as Lynn just got a taste of extreme from the "Hardcore Icon"! Douglas gets on the microphone and yells at Lynn, telling him he was stupid to try to take on "The Franchise" and that he's going to run this place, and he's not doing it alone! The three of them then pose over Lynn's fallen body as the medical staff and officials make their way down. Credible is crotch chopping over Lynn and then holds up his Singapore Cain victoriously as Douglas laughs like a true villain, admiring his handy work while Francine smiles and applauds.
• We get a vignette for the "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman, showing highlights of his recent tour of Japan over the last month. We then cut to a promo from Waltman, who says he just competed in a Junior Heavyweight tournament and defeated the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion Jushin "Thunder" Liger in the finals! We see highlights from that encounter. He says he challenged Liger to a match on his turf, Ultimate Championship Wrestling, next month and Liger has accepted to defend the title! He says he and Liger have traded wins, but they are going to settle this in Cleveland, Ohio, at "Summer Storm"!
We then get a voice over from Joe Dombrowski explaining the details for next month's event, "Summer Storm", live from Cleveland at the Gray's Armory on August 10th! We get a graphic of both "Lightning Kid" and the masked Liger standing face to face with clouds and lightning around them. Dombrowski says that Thunder and Lightning collide at "Summer Storm" for the World Junior Heavyweight title, and you don't want to miss it!
•"Die Hard" Eddie Edwards vs. Roderick Strong
Tables Match
Edwards is fired up for this one, and Strong is cautious early on. Corino likes the mind games from Strong, as he says he's waiting for Edwards to gas out and is trying to pick his spots to take advantage. Prazak thinks Strong is a coward for running, and says he hopes Edwards smashes him through a table tonight! At one point Strong pulls the turnbuckle pad off while in the corner without Edwards seeing it, and Edwards comes in with a Helluva Kick, only to connect with the back of his leg to the exposed steel! From there, Strong targets the leg, smashing it against the turnpost, dropping him on the guardrail, and crushing it under the ring steps. Edwards is hurting, but Strong can't break the spirit of "Die Hard"! Strong grabs a table and sets it up on the outside. Strong and Edwards fight on the apron, and Edwards gets the better of the fist fight. Edwards grabs Strong and looks for a Powerbomb perhaps, but his leg gives out!
Strong low blows Edwards and tries to smash him through the table with a Rock Bottom variation, but Edwards grabs the top rope and counters, sending Strong down face first onto the wood. Edwards follows up with a Running Penalty Kick that flips Strong on the outside, but he favors the knee afterwards, rolling in the ring in pain. Edwards tries to pull Strong back in, but Strong grabs the bad leg and pulls him down, slamming it on the apron afterwards. Edwards is rolling in pain, so Strong grabs another table from under the ring and slides it in. Strong gets back in, but Edwards catches him and drives him face first onto the wood! Edwards picks up the table and sets it up into the corner. Strong rushes him and attempts to deliver the Sick Kick to put him through it, but "Die Hard" dives out of the way and Strong smashes through the table!
Prazak says that doesn't end it, as Edwards has to put Strong through a table, he can't eliminate himself. Edwards rolls out of the ring and goes for another table under the apron, but Strong is back up and flies out through the ropes, crushing Edwards into the guardrail with a Flying Forearm Suicida! Strong lifts up Edwards and delivers a Standing Rock Bottom right onto the table on the floor, but it's not set up and doesn't break; it just hurts Edwards pretty bad. Strong proceeds to try to set up that table on the floor, but Eddie is back up and catches Strong with a spear into the ringpost! They tease smashing one another through the announcer's table as Prazak pleads for them to stop, but Edwards now hits the low blow on Strong, getting a big reaction from the Dearborn crowd!
They are back on the other side of the ring, where the table is already set up. Strong gauges Edwards' eyes and then repeatedly slams his head on the table. Strong tells the fans to shut up and cry, because he's about to finish this! Strong grabs Edwards by the hair and pulls him back up to the apron. Strong lifts Edwards up for a suplex, but Edwards counter with a knee to the head! Both men are staggered. Strong tries for a kick, but Edwards blocks it and delivers a Spinning Back Elbow. Strong is stunned by swings out of instinct, but Edwards ducks it and grabs him under his arm and by the shoulder. Edwards leaps backwards and delivers a Spanish Fly off the apron, smashing Strong through the table in an incredible move! Both men are down and hurting, but Eddie Edwards has done it! "Die Hard" gets his revenge!
Winner: "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards
• Backstage we see Jerry Lynn being carted on a stretcher with a neck brace on. He is being loaded into an Emergency Medical Vehicle. Dave Prazak says he is wishing Jerry Lynn a speedy recovery, while Steve Corino thinks his days in the ring are finished thanks to Shane Douglas and Justin Credible, the new Power Players of UCW!
• The Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) and Johnny Gargano vs. Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) and Petey Williams
This was a very fast paced six man tag team match, which seemed to be contested under lucha libre rules, as we really didn't get many tags throughout this contest. These six men were in and out of the ring, as the match went back and forth, and the commentary team really had trouble trying to keep up with the action. Bad Influence and Williams would slow things down at different points once they could gain control in the ring. They would each take turns stomping Gargano in the corner at one point, and then posing as they all put a foot on Sabin's back while choking him on the ropes at another. The good guys would manage to rally back, though, getting big cheers from the crowd as they took turns Superkicking each of their opponents. Petey Williams would manage to hit a very good Canadian Destroyer counter on Shelley near the end, but Gargano would make the save just before the three. Shelley would catch Kazarian going up the buckles with a kick to the face to send him flying to the floor, only to get caught with a Palm Strike from Daniels in the corner. Daniels would set up Shelley for the Fall From Grace, but Sabin ran in and clobbered him with a Corner Dropkick. Sabin would then lift Daniels up into a Powerbomb, and Shelley would turn on the buckles and grab him, delivering the Sliced Bread #2/Powerbomb combo! Gargano would intercept an oncoming Williams with a Spear as Sabin covered Daniels for the three count, and the fans were ecstatic!
Winners: The Motor City Machine Guns and Johnny Gargano
• We go backstage, where Truth Martini is standing in with "Perfect" Shawn Spears and "Showtime" Eric Young, the Northern Express near a backstage monitor. Martini says that the Motor City Machine Guns might be feeling pretty good right now, but those feelings of ecstasy will lead to a bad hangover once they realize defeat at the hands of the Northern Express. Oh, the TRUTH HURTS, and it's going to hurt real bad once the Express get their hands on the Machine Guns!
• UCW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE
Jay Lethal (c) vs. Matt Sydal
Ladder Match
The fans are chanting "SYDAL! SYDAL! SYDAL!" loudly as this match begins. Lethal doesn't seem very quick to mix it up, and spends time jawing with this electric Dearborn crowd, but Sydal is being patient. Prazak notes that Sydal isn't biting, as he knows Lethal will take advantage of any small mistake he might make and make him pay. Corino says that Sydal doesn't have two brain cells to rub together, and he's going to make a mistake, Corino says no matter what Sydal does, we're going to be hearing "AND STILL!" at the end of the night! Prazak isn't buying it.
Once this match gets going, Lethal is able to weather an early onslaught from Sydal that included quick grappling takedowns and strikes. Lethal grabs Sydal by the hair and takes him down. Lethal zeroes in on a chinlock, and then proceeds to drop knees and elbows on Sydal, before grabbing the ropes and landing high elevation stomps. Lethal steps on Sydal's head and pushes down on the ropes, crushing him under his boot as he mocks the crowd, yelling "IS THIS YOUR HERO!?" He then spits on Sydal and delivers a Soccer Kick to his head, getting a gasp from the audience. Lethal parades around the ring with his arms up, telling them all he's the best. Prazak questions whether all of this showboating is wise, as Corino says it's the confidence of a champion, and that Lethal knows he has Sydal beat.
Lethal goes out of the ring and up the ramp to grab one of the two ladders at ringside. Lethal doesn't seem to be in a big hurry, and once he turns while holding the ladder, he's shocked to see Sydal running in the ring towards him. Lethal's eyes get wide as Sydal leaps over the top and he flips to the outside, CRUSHING LETHAL and smashing the ladder into his chest! Both men are down on the outside. Corino says the idiot Sydal probably hurt himself more than Lethal with that move! Sydal is the first back up to his feet, though, and he goes on the attack. He delivers kicks and open hand strikes to Lethal before finishing up with a High Knee Strike that sends the champion over the guard rail and into the crowd.
Sydal slides the ladder into the ring. Sydal proceeds to set up the ladder in the middle of the ring and begins to climb. Lethal makes his way over the railing and rolls back into the ring. Lethal grabs Sydal's left leg and begins to pull. There's a short struggle, but Sydal comes flying off and Lethal leaps up... LETHAL CATCHES HIM WITH A CUTTER ON THE WAY DOWN! WHAT IMPACT! The ladder falls over onto the ropes, as both men are laying on the mat.
Lethal and Sydal are on their knees and they begin to exchange right hands. Back and forth. BOO! YAY! BOO! YAY! Then Sydal shows his athletcisim, leaping up from his knees to his feet, and he catches Lethal with a roundhouse kick right to the head! BIG YAY!
Sydal grabs the ladder and sets up standing the corner. Sydal grabs Lethal and tries to pull him to his feet, but Lethal grabs him by the head and delivers a Jawbreaker. Sydal is hurting, and Lethal continues the attack, grabbing him and quickly delivering his Lethal Combination! Lethal sits for a moment, smiling as the fans jeer him, and then points to the ladder as Sydal lays on his back in the supine position. Lethal goes to the ladder and climbs up, as Corino yells for him to finish Sydal from the commentary table. Lethal poses near the top of the ladder like he's Randy Savage with his hands above his head and then leaps off, looking for the Flying Elbowdrop, but Sydal moves out of the way and Lethal gets nothing but canvas! Prazak yells at Corino, "HOW'S THAT FOR A DUMB MISTAKE! GET UP, MATT! GET THE BELT!"
Lethal rolls to his feet, holding his elbow, and Sydal unleashes another wicked striking combo, finishing off with a wild spinning wheel kick to Lethal's head, cleaning his clock good! Sydal now points to the ladder, and the fans cheer! Sydal climbs it and turns, and he's up higher than Lethal was.
"PLEASE DON'T DIE! PLEASE DON'T DIE! PLEASE DON'T DIE!"
Sydal poses for a second with arms out and then leaps off... SHOOTING STAR PRESS OFF THE LADDER!
HE CONNECTS WITH THE SHOOTING STAR PRESS!
THE CHAMPION IS HURT! BOTH MEN ARE DOWN! THE CROWD IS GOING CRAZY! THE COMMENTARY TEAM IS SPEECHLESS!
Sydal rolls to his feet and goes to the corner, grabbing the ladder, which is leaning against the ropes, toppled over from the force of Sydal's previous lift off. Sydal drags the ladder to the center of the ring. Sydal begins to climb. Lethal is on the apron and gets to his feet. Sydal is half way up the ladder when Lethal springboards up and he dives forward, delivering a desperate Double Axe Handle like a cruise missile, sending both men slamming to the mat! They are both down again, and the ladder is once again toppled over on the ropes! Corino yells out that the champion isn't finished yet!
Lethal gets to his feet and goes over to the ladder. He pops the braces and folds the ladder back up flat and pulls it diagonally across from the turnbuckles. Sydal is back to his feet and both men exchange punches again, but this time Lethal catches Sydal with a low kick to the groin to swing the momentum. Lethal runs and does a Handspring, but Sydal leaps up and catches him with a Knee Strike to the back to stop the Lethal Injection. Sydal grabs the champion and seems like he's going for the Lightning Spiral onto the ladder, but Lethal manages to block it, gauging his eyes! Sydal is hurting and swings blindly, but Lethal ducks it and grabs him from behind by both of his arms!
FLIPPING DRAGON SUPLEX ONTO THE LADDER! SYDAL'S MIDSECTION WAS CRUSHED!
Sydal is laying over the ladder, holding his stomach in severe pain. Lethal grabs his leg and pulls him to a laying position over the ladder and then stomps his aching guts for good measure. Lethal is looking very tired and doesn't bother with any showboating now. He just goes to buckles and begins to ascend. Prazak says that this is enough, he doesn't need to do this. Corino says it's time to put a nail in Sydal's coffin. Lethal gets to the top, but has to take a second to compose himself. He finishes going up to the top, but Sydal shocks everyone, rolling and getting to his feet and diving towards the buckle. Lethal maintains his balance on top and begins throwing punches downwards at his challenger. Sydal blocks a shot and begins to ascend. Sydal lands a few clean shots and grabs Lethal into a Belly to Belly hold. They struggle, but Sydal gets the better of it. OH MY GOD!
BACKFLIP BELLY TO BELLY SUPLEX OFF THE TOP ROPE ONTO THE LADDER! LETHAL'S BACK HAS BEEN OBLITERATED! WHAT IMPACT!
Lethal looks like he is going into convulsions on the mat, holding his back and jerking around in agony. Sydal is trying to pull himself up on the ropes, but he seems completely spent now. Lethal is laying prone right under the ropes on the apron. Sydal stumbles up and grabs the ladder. The fans are cheering and chanting for him as Dave Prazak yells out for him to fulfill his destiny! Sydal sets up the ladder in the middle of the ring. He begins to climb. Slowly but surely. Lethal isn't moving much, and doesn't seem like he's going to be able to stop him.
WAIT, WHAT'S THIS! Dave Prazak is yelling out!
IT'S THE NORTHERN EXPRESS! THE NORTHERN EXPRESS HAVE HIT THE RING!
Sydal is near the top, looking up and reaching for the Heavyweight Title! He doesn't see Shawn Spears and Eric Young! They've grabbed both sides of the ladder and push it over with tremendous force. Dave Prazak and Steve Corino run and jump from the commentary table...
MATT SYDAL GOES FLYING FROM THE RING AND SMASHES THROUGH THE TABLE ON THE OUTSIDE! THE COMMENTARY TABLE IS NOTHING BUT WRECKAGE, WITH SYDAL AT THE BOTTOM OF IT!
Young and Spears put the ladder upright in the middle of the ring as Truth Martini revives Jay Lethal. The referee is yelling and screaming for Young and Spears to leave the ring, and begins cursing at Martini to get the hell away from ringside. The damage is already done, however. Jay Lethal manages to get up, holding his back, and scales the ladder. The fans boo loudly as he retrieves his title and descends. Some garbage hits the ring.
"AND STILL!" is indeed uttered from the ring announcer's mouth, as Jay Lethal has retained his championship.
Winner: Jay Lethal
Truth Martini and the Northern Express pose with Jay Lethal, as it is clear now that Lethal is now a part of Martini's stable. He gives Martini a hug, and then Truth raises his arm as the fans boo.
JUST THEN, OUT TO THE RING RUNS THE MOTOR CITY MACHINE GUNS AND JOHNNY GARGANO! THEY'VE GOT CHAIRS IN HAND! They manage to catch Spears with a chair shot and Shelley kicks Young from under the ropes. Gargano rolls to the outside and continues pursuit, throwing his chair and hitting Martini in the back as the fans cheer for their heroes coming out to run off the villains. Shelley and Sabin go and check on Sydal, as medical staff help him out of the heap of rubble that was once the commentary table.
The show ends as The Machine Guns and Gargano look on concerned and frustrated, cussing about what happened, as Shelley slaps the mat is distress.
