UCW "NEVER SAY DIE" RESULTS
July 15th, 2024 from the Ted Reeves Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
July 15th, 2024 from the Ted Reeves Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada
- The show kicks off with Commissioner Adam Pearce announcing that tonight the main event will feature a UCW Heavyweight Title #1 Contendership match involving Roderick Strong, Johnny Gargano, and Matt Sydal. The champion, Jay Lethal, makes his way out and says that this is ridiculous, as he has already beaten these guys and should be able to hand pick his next opponent! Pearce informs Lethal that he may be the champion, but that he makes the matches around here, and if he questions his authority again, he can make his reign a living hell. Lethal yells that Pearce had better watch himself, as we head to the commentary table, where Dave Prazak and Steve Corino are sitting in to call the action.
- The Motor City Machine Guns (c) defeat The Rascalz in a match for the UCW Tag Team Tiltes. This was a fast paced opener between two fan favorite teams. The team of Wentz and Miguel would get frustrated as their efforts to defeat Shelley and Sabin for the titles would come up short continually. The veteran team of the Motor City Machine Guns would weather the onslaught from their young opponents and deliver the Skull and Bones to get the pinfall in their first successful title defense.
- Roderick Strong is interview backstage by Joe Dombrowski. He says that Jay Lethal is wrong, and that he has never beaten him, and he's going to enjoy snapping him in half once he gets his rightful title shot.
- There is a video package hyping up the battle between "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman and "Speedball" Mike Bailey later tonight! Prazak puts over both men's speed and martial arts skills, with Corino saying he's looking forward to both men kicking the crap out of each other!
- Reckless Youth defeats Chad Collyer. Collyer is a very clean cut and technically proficient wrestler, having learn his craft under Dean Malenko and modeled himself around "The Ice Man". Youth is much more unkempt, but he has an exciting and unique style that had the fans behind him throughout. Corino would blast Reckless Youth on commentary throughout the match for his lack of proper wrestling gear and perceived lack of respect for the business, but none of that mattered, as Youth would get the win with a Frog Splash.
- We go backstage, where Matt Sydal and Johnny Gargano face off. Gargano tells Sydal that he respects him, but he is going to have to beat him tonight. Sydal says he's going to get his revenge on Lethal one way or another for cracking him with that ring bell at "Paths of Glory", and he plans to do it by winning this match. Gargano says he can give it his best shot, and he Sydal says may the best man win. They shake hands and we head back to the ring.
- Northern Express defeat London & Kendrick. The Northern Express of "Showtime" Eric Young and "Perfect" Shawn Spears were lead to the ring by Truth Martini. Martini would join Prazak and Corino on commentary and state that he has signed on to manage the hottest new team in the sport, and they are going to make money hand over fist as they take over the UCW, and the UWA! London and Kendrick gave the Northern Express some trouble early on, but Martini would leave the announcer's table and cause a distraction to get things going back in Young and Spears's favor. The Express would deliver The Derailer to London to get the pinfall. Martini would laugh and gloat after the match, as Young and Spears posed dominantly.
- We go backstage, where Joe Dombrowski speaks with "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman as he warms up for his match. Waltman says that Bailey has a lot of spunk and energy, but he's going to strike him down tonight!
- Chris Hero defeats Sami Callihan. Callihan and Hero have a decent, short match, with Callihan using foul tactics to try to keep the Dayton, OH, native down. Hero would fight back and deliver a Hero's Welcome to get the pinfall, showing his resilience tonight.
- Jerry Lynn defeats "The Franchise" Shane Douglas by disqualification. Douglas was accompanied by the lovely Francine, and he seemed very full of himself throughout, apparently not taking Lynn seriously. That was a mistake, as Lynn is as good as they come and had Douglas near defeat many times. Douglas would motion for help from Francine, and she would hand him in a steel chair. Douglas would blast Lynn with the chair repeatedly, causing a disqualification. Douglas and Francine would laugh and mock Lynn as they left, acting as though they were victorious.
- "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards defeats Mike Bennett. Bennett was very aggressive throughout, but the very tough Boston native Edwards was determined to get back on the winning track. Edwards would deliver the Boston Knee Party to knock Bennet out for the three count. Edwards got on the mic after the match and proclaimed that he intends to face Roderick Strong again, because he knows and Strong knows that he isn't the better man, and he's going to prove it!
- Backstage, Joe Dombrowski catches up with "The Franchise" Shane Douglas and Francine. Dombrowski lets into him about using the chair against Jerry Lynn, and Douglas says Lynn is a loser and always will be a loser. Douglas said he was brought here by Scott D'Amore because he knew he needed a main event FRANCHISE player if he ever wanted to get this little upstart off the ground and make it relevant in the UWA! He said Jerry Lynn is just a casualty for the greater good, and that everybody needs to fall in line and accept their place in the pecking order behind the true alpha of UCW, Shane Douglas! He scolds Joe and tells him to overt his eyes, because he doesn't deserve to look at Francine as they leave the backstage area.
- "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman defeats "Speedball" Mike Bailey. This was an absolutely thrilling match, as was promised. Waltman and Bailey showed their vast array of kicks and strikes, as well as their athletic ability with various flips and reversal sequences. The respect was clearly there by the end, but neither man wanted to admit defeat. Bailey would find himself on his knees, hurting badly but goading Waltman to bring it on. Waltman would deliver a Corkscrew Roundhouse Kick to Bailey's head to knock him out, and exhaustedly covered him for the three count. Waltman would wait and shake Bailey's hand after the contest, and Bailey would raise his hand after.
- Jerry Lynn is backstage, and he is very upset and intense. Lynn is standing with Adam Pearce, yelling that he wants that son of a bitch Shane Douglas next month, and he wants him in a no disqualification match so he can give him a taste of his own medicine! Pearce tells Lynn to calm down, and says that's going to be very fitting for next month's show, "Extreme Heat".
- Matt Sydal defeats Johnny Gargano and Roderick Strong. Matt Sydal would win a wild three way match to become the number one contender to Jay Lethal's UCW Heavyweight Championship. Lethal had used the ring bell to defeat Sydal in the semi-finals of the UCW Heavyweight Title tournament, and Dave Prazak says on commentary that Sydal has been telling anyone who would listen about how plans to get Lethal back for what he did at "Paths of Glory". Roderick Strong would bring a table into the ring at one point, setting it up in the corner. The referee would try to stop him, but Strong grabbed him and delivered a Head and Arm Backbreaker, taking the ref out as these Toronto fans booed him mercilessly! Strong would grab Gargano like he was going to Powerbomb him into the table when out ran "Die Hard" Eddie Edwards! Edwards would Superkick Strong, and then grab him and send him through the table with a Northern Lights Suplex! Another referee has hit the ring, and Gargano stumbles up, distracted by what was happening with Strong and Edwards, and turns right into a Meteora by Matt Sydal! Sydal has the legs hooked, and the referee counts the three! After the match, Jay Lethal hits the ring and drills Sydal with the UCW Heavyweight Title, flattening him out! Johnny Gargano is back up and goes after Lethal, but Lethal bows out and smiles all the way up the entrance ramp. Gargano is too exhausted to pursue, but he does check on the fallen Sydal, who is holding his head. Corino puts this over as a brilliant move by Lethal, saying the champion knows how to get the psychological advantage, while Dave Prazak calls his actions a criminal assault! The show ends with Lethal holding up his title and saying Sydal has no chance in hell of taking it from him.
