"REIGN SUPREME 2024"
Date: May 4th, 2024
Venue: Huntington Place
Location: Detroit, Michigan
BROADCAST TEAM
Commentary: Dave Prazak and Steve Corino
Interviewer: Joe Dombrowski
MATCH ONE
THREE WAY RULES
Chris Hero vs. Delirious vs. Jimmy Jacobs
Referee: Sean McCoy
We had a nicely paced 10 minute opener to start this show. It wasn't all fast and mayhem like some of these affairs, but something more thoughtful, with a story throughout. Jacobs and Delirious attempted to work together to take out the bigger Hero, but Jacobs would eventually turn on the more naive Delirious and attempt to secure victory. Hero would rally and eventually deliver the Hero's Welcome to Jacobs to get the three count.
Winners by Pinfall: Chris Hero
(00:10:24)
MATCH TWO
SINGLES RULES
Charlie Haas vs. Sonjay Dutt
Referee: Brice Miller
Dutt would try to use his fast and agile offense to overcome the amateur stand out, but Haas wasn't having it. Haas is an absolute beast, and after catching Dutt in mid-air and driving him down with a powerslam, it was pretty much all over. Haas would hit a series of short arm clotheslines in succession right into a Rip Cord Olympic Slam to seal Dutt's fate. Haas would then lock on the Haas of Pain to get the submission.
Winner by Submission: Charlie Haas
(00:04:10)
After the match, Haas took the microphone and said he's taking on all comers. He says anywhere, any time, just say his name and you'll feel the Haas of Pain.
MATCH THREE
SINGLES RULES
Ethan Page vs. Matt Sydal
Referee: Trent Thomas
Page is a good hand in the ring, who has charisma and power, but Sydal was on a mission. Jay Lethal used a ring bell to defeat Sydal last month to secure his spot in the main event tonight, and Sydal wanted to show that he is one of the best wrestlers in UCW today. Sydal would deliver the Shooting Star Press to emphatically make that statement tonight.
Winner by Pinfall: Matt Sydal
(00:09:45)
MATCH FOUR
TAG TEAM RULES
The Northern Express: "Showtime" Eric Young and "Perfect" Shawn Spears vs. Second City Saints: Ace Steel and "Classic" Colt Cabana
Referee: Trent Thomas
The Second City Saints came into this match in good spirits and confident, having been the more experienced team of the two, but Young and Spears were on fire. The Northern Express would masterfully work around the rules and punish their opponents, manipulating young referee Trent Thomas in order to break the rules seemingly at will. The Northern Express would deliver their tag team finisher, The Derailer (Powerbomb/Neckbreaker), on Cabana to get the three count.
Winners by Pinfall: The Northern Express
(00:08:54)
Shawn Spears grabs one of the cameras and just yells that the Northern Express is on track to the titles, before we cut to the next segment.
MATCH FIVE
SINGLES RULES
"Die Hard" Eddie Edwards vs. Roderick Strong
Referee: Brice Miller
These two know each other very well, having been opponents and teammates at various times over the years. Edwards won a hard fought battle with Sami Callihan last month, while Strong was eliminated from the UCW Heavyweight title in an absolute war with Johnny Gargano. Edwards let Roddy have it early on, but Strong would manage to catch "Die Hard" with a wild chair shot as Edwards dove through the ropes to the outside. From there, Strong sent Edwards into a turnpost head first, and then dropped him onto the guardrail with a modified End of Heartache. Back in the ring, Strong locks on the Stronghold and Edwards tries to fight it, but can't get to the ropes and actually passes out from the blood loss in his forehead and pain in his back.
Winner by TKO: Roderick Strong
(00:14:53)
Roderick Strong takes the mic afterwards and says that Eddie has always been his own worst enemy, and he's too tough for his own good. He says he's going to tough himself right out of this business. Strong says that he, on the other hand, is going right back after the top spot, because you either win or you learn, and he learned a lot from that loss to Johnny Gargano, and that you never play with your food.
MATCH SIX
SINGLES RULES
Sabu vs. "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman
Referee: Matt Goddard
This was an absolutely wild contest, and maybe the match the fans were most excited for. Sabu came at the Kid like a wild animal, but the disciplined martial artist stayed poised and kept going for the kill. Sabu would assault Kid on the outside with weapons and delivered a legdrop off the apron with chair to really cause some damage. Kid would catch Sabu with a Michinoku Driver and hit a Moonsault, but Sabu showed his toughness kicking out at two. Sabu would bring a table into the ring and shove down referee Matt Goddard as he protested. Sabu would go up top, but Kid would catch him up top and delivered a Facebuster off the top through the table! Both men were down and hurting, but both men would rise to their feet, wobbling. Kid would duck a clothesline and catch Sabu with a spin kick and then hit Sabu with the Lightning Bomb (Liger Bomb), and held him down for the three count.
Winner by Pinfall: "Lightning Kid" Sean Waltman
(00:15:36)
After the match, Lightning Kid gets on the mic and says there's a guy who's trying to steal his thunder around here named "Speedball". He says Mike Bailey thinks he can be him... maybe he should try to beat him next month and see what he's really got!
MATCH SEVEN
TAG TEAM RULES
UCW TAG TEAM TITLE TOURNAMENT FINALS
Bad Influence: "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian vs. Motor City Machine Guns: Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin
Referee: Sean McCoy
Daniels and Kazarian are as good as they come in the tag team division, but the MCMGs were on fire tonight in Detroit. This was a masterful performance, as Daniels and Kazarian really worked the crowd throughout, giving them hope and then taking it away, as Sabin and Shelley struggled from underneath to try to get the victory. Sabin would find himself in a very bad way for about five to six minutes in this contest, as Kazarian and Daniels quick tagged in and out and just laid into him, and sucked the life out of him by keeping him grounded and pounding him down. Sabin would manage to avoid the Best Moonsault Ever from Daniels, and then leaped off of Daniels's back and tagged in Shelley! Daniels saw this and leaped over and tagged in Kazarian. Kazarian would fly in and attempt to cut off Shelley's momentum, but they went back and forth until Shelley caught Kazarian with the ShellShock! Shelley and Sabin then delivered a Double Superkick to Daniels, sending him flying off the apron! They then finished up by hitting the ASCS Rush striking combination on Kazarian, and then Sabin tackled Daniels off the apron as Shelley got the three count on Kazarian. The Motor City Machine Guns are the new UCW Tag Team Champions, and the fans here in Detroit are ecstatic!
Winners by Pinfall, and NEW UCW Tag Team Champions: Motor City Machine Guns
(00:19:22)
MATCH EIGHT
SINGLES RULES
UCW HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE TOURNAMENT FINALS
Jay Lethal vs. Johnny Gargano
Referee: Matt Goddard
Gargano came into this as fiery as ever, really wanting to get this title around his waist, while Lethal was much more reserved. Lethal has been waiting for this moment for a long time, and seemed very poised, and calculated in his approach. Gargano was attempting to catch Lethal sleeping and get this match over with, but Lethal is a wily veteran and took complete advantage of this over zealousness and made Gargano pay. Lethal would work the knee of Gargano throughout, and went to the Figure Four a couple of times through the match to try to submit the Clevelander. Gargano would fight through it, getting to the ropes both times, but expended a lot of energy to do so. Gargano would find himself on the apron after the second Figure Four and attempted to catch Lethal with a slingshot Spear, but his timing was a bit off and Lethal managed to pull referee Matt Goddard in front of the Spear, taking him out and causing the fans to boo wildly! Lethal would then roll out of the ring, as a tired and hurting Gargano checked on the referee. Lethal would go out and grab the ring bell, the exact instrument he had used to orchestrate his victory against Matt Sydal in the semi-finals. Lethal would make his way into the ring with it and attempt to strike Gargano with it, but Gargano caught him with a Superkick to send him down, but fell back to his hands and knees, his hurt knee giving out in the process. Lethal is down and squirming on the mat, as is the referee and Gargano. Gargano is the first man fully up, and he is looking exhausted. Gargano stumbles over and picks up the ring bell. The fans here in Detroit begin to cheer him on, and tell him to ring that bell right over Lethal's head! Gargano lifts it and asks if they want it more forcefully, and they roar now! Lethal stumbles up and Gargano turns and has him in his sights. Gargano pulls back and is ready to let it rip, but the referee grabs it from behind him and pulls him around! Gargano lets go and argues that Lethal was going to hit him, but Goddard isn't hearing it and tosses the bell outside of the ring. Lethal runs past Gargano and then back past him. Gargano turns. It's too late. LETHAL INJECTION! Lethal connects! Both men are down, and Lethal turns and drapes an arm over Gargano, firming up a bit afterwards as Matt Goddard makes the three count. Jay Lethal has done it! He is the champion!
Winner by Pinfall, and NEW UCW Heavyweight Champion: Jay Lethal
(00:25:44)
It takes a minute, as both men really laid it all out there tonight, but Lethal grabs the title and looks down at it with a satisfied grin. Lethal then scales the buckles and poses with it, telling the Detroit fans he told them it was his destiny as the show goes off the air and he gets a mostly negative reaction from the Detroit crowd.
